The Liberty Bell
The Liberty Bell Balloon was commissioned by aeronaut Contact Wolf to help Philadelphia celebrate the bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution in 1987. The balloon was the first special shape built by Aerostar International of a bronze colored fabric with the crack done in black. Its construction includes an inner balloon and an outer balloon to achieve the bell shape. It is 105 feet high, 80 feet wide, with the envelope weighing 600 pounds.
The balloon was first flown and tethered throughout the Philadelphia area and in 1993 Mrs. Wolf donated it to Bob Dicks for the celebration of the bicentennial of the First Air Voyage in America. This event commemorated the first balloon flight in North America which went from Philadelphia, PA to Deptford, NJ, in 1793.
Since then the balloon has been flown by Bob Dicks throughout the United States and Canada, including the Albuquerque, New Mexico Balloon Fiesta where it won first place for special shapes.
In 1994, the balloon was the main attraction in Normandy, France where the 50th anniversary of D-Day was being commemorated.
The Liberty Bell is available for tethers to commemorate historic events.
